Tottenham Hotspur vs. Chelsea: Spurs suffered a trash from Blues

When Jose Mourinho took the helm, Tottenham Hotspur sat in 14th place in the Premier League. Just five matches later, the new manager has a chance to break into the top four, something that seemed completely unrealistic a mere month ago. There is still a long way to go in the season, but for Spurs to even be in this position it is remarkable.

Fittingly, this opportunity comes against rival Chelsea, a club that has taken just nine points from its last seven league matches. It seems like every recent clash between these two London sides has brought fireworks, and the first time out for Mourinho as Tottenham’s manager is unlikely to calm the emotions.

Just like against Manchester United, the narratives will be non-stop on Sunday, but the performance will need to be different this time around. It will help Tottenham to be playing at home, and the team’s form seems to improve every week. Chelsea does not have the sharpest defense, so there will be chances for goals to be had.

There is no doubt that Mourinho will do all he can to win this one. Even though there is still over half a season to go, sinking back to six points off Chelsea would undo a lot of the momentum he has achieved during his short time in charge, especially if that includes losses to two of his former clubs. A win, though, would be a great momentum builder into the holiday fixture congestion. This match could be a season-changer.
