The Stamford chairman Abramovich forces Lampard to sign Chilwell in the upcoming the transfer

Roman Abramovich has been urged to sign Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell for Chelsea by club hero Frank Sinclair.

Chilwell has emerged as a target for Chelsea ahead of the January transfer window, with Frank Lampard now in a position to utilise the Blues’ funds for the first time as manager.

England international Chilwell has been a mainstay in the Leicester team over the past three seasons and is flourishing under Brendan Rodgers, with the Foxes currently second in the league.

Asked which player Lampard should target next month, Chelsea hero Sinclair told the Daily Star: ‘For me the obvious player is Ben Chilwell, although Brendan Rodgers won’t want to lose him.

‘Obviously Frank chopped and changed at left-back. In recent games Cesar Azpilicueta has played out there, which he did in a title winning side for Chelsea.

‘But his strengths are at right-back and the left-back issues clearly need resolving. Chilwell is a full international and in the top two or three English full backs in the country.
