The young lawmaker cited a number of reasons in the letter on why he is leaving the opposition party
Senator Elisha Ishaku Abbo has announced his defection from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Senator Abbo announced his defection in a letter addressed to the Senate on Wednesday, November 25.
Senate President Ahmad Lawan read the letter during Wednesday’s plenary session.
Senator Abbo has been hailed severally by his admirers as a philanthropist.

“I write to formally inform you Sir, the Senate, and indeed Nigerians of my defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“My Senate President Sir, it is worthy of note that in the history of Nigeria’s Nascent democracy, specifically from 1999 till date, no president has paid attention to the welfare of Nigerian Citizens like President Muhamadu Buhari.
“Thus, in living up to the expectation of the good people of Adamawa North Senatorial District,
I hereby defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) with effect from today being Wednesday, the 25th day of November 2020.”
Some Nigerians have been commenting on Abbo’s defection.
Ajiboye Toba wrote on Twitter: “Nice one.
It is good to go to where my sins would be forgiven but I must remember the day of reckoning.
God has a way of arranging things, we can’t question him.
Wherever you are, be nice.” Idorenyin Etuk wrote: “Waste of time and news space.
What is his contribution to national development or impact as a senator? What’s more to him outside this and the defection? Just asking.”
Bauchi governor denies speculation of defecting to APC Abdulkadir Dan Bosuwa wrote: “Distinguished, you are warmly welcome on board.”
Meanwhile, Governor Dave Umahi has claimed that many politicians in Ebonyi state, including federal lawmakers, will soon dump the PDP for the APC.
The governor made the comment on Thursday, November 19 as he formally joined the ruling APC at a reception organised for him in Abakaliti, the Ebonyi state capital.
Umahi was received into the APC by its national caretaker chairman and Yobe state governor, Mai Mala Buni
