The relationship between former President Goodluck Jonathan and his successor, President Muhammadu Buhari has raised the stakes in permutations for the 2023 general elections.
Judging from Jonathan’s frequent official visits to Aso Rock, the relationship between the duo is more than cordial and rosy, Daily Trust reports.
This year alone, the former president was an important guest of President Buhari following the political crisis bedevilling the Republic of Mali after the president was forced to resign.
Jonathan who was appointed ECOWAS Special Envoy to Mali visited the Presidential Villa on July 21, August 18, August 26, and September 28 to brief his predecessor on the political climate in the West African country.

The Nigerian leader showered encomiums on his predecessor after the successes the envoy recorded in Mali.
He expressed delight that the Mali situation had calmed down considerably, following interventions by ECOWAS leaders.

Buhari held a meeting with Jonathan at the Presidential Villa Abuja after holding talks with service chiefs over the rising level of insecurity throughout Nigeria.
Reports claim that Jonathan was seen on his way to the office of the president for the meeting which started around 1:45pm on January 30.
This was actually the first time both Nigerian leaders will meet after they were last seen together back in October 2019.
Legit.ng recalls that the ex-Nigerian leader was also present when President Buhari held a crucial virtual meeting with former leaders at Aso Villa following the unrest in the country over the activities of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
Legit.ng reported that former president Jonathan stated that his relationship with Buhari is cordial despite party affiliation and political difference.
Jonathan made this known on Tuesday, July 21, while addressing the pressmen at the State House in Abuja.
