John Obi Mikel could return to the Premier League this summer
The Nigerian star has emerged top target for West Ham United
The midfielder won nine titles with Chelsea during his reign at Stamford Bridge
Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel could be heading back to the Premier League three years after parting ways with Chelsea.
The 33-year-old is reportedly in talks with West Ham United who are battling relegation with just five more games to the end of the season.
Mikel spent about 11 years at Stamford Bridge winning all the silverware available across competitions during his reign.
And his experience could be valuable for the Hammers next season if they avoid the drop this campaign.
The midfielder has since leaving the Blues in 2017 represented Tianjin TEDA, Middlesbrough, and most recently, Trabzonspor.
Mikel left the Turkish side following his fallout with the authority over their refusal to suspend league games in March.
Meanwhile, the one-time Champions League winner has been linked with several clubs including Championship side West Bromwich Albion.

According to Complete Sport, the 33-year-old’s final decision will be based on if West Ham remain in the English topflight next season.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner won nine major titles including two Premier Leagues, one Champions League and one Europa League titles.
The former Lyn Oslo of Norway player has also been linked with Brazilian clubs Botafogo and Internacional as well as Serie A newcomers Benevento.
The Wizards are looking to add experience into their squad after recently gaining promotion for the send time in their history to play in the Italian top-flight division.
According to Italian news media outfit Gianlucadimarzio, Benevento have confirmed their interest in signing Mikel, who is a free agent after leaving Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor in March.
Also, the Nigerian legend John Obi Mikel is shocked by Mohamed Salah’s success at Liverpool in such a short period of time.
The Egyptian goal king spent two seasons at Stamford Bridge along with the former Super Eagles captain after joining Chelsea from FC Basel in 2014.
But he failed to command regular playing time under Jose Mourinho and was sent to Fiorentina on loan for the remainder of his debut season in the Premier League.
