President Buhari described the late Burundi president as a patriot who led his country with wisdom and foresight

Nkurunziza’s death was announced on Tuesday after attempts to revive him from a heart attack proved futile

President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with Burundi over the death of President Pierre Nkurunziza who died of a heart attack aged 55 years.

In a tweet on his official Twitter handle on Tuesday evening, June 9, Buhari expressed grief and sadness over the passing of the Burundian president.

Legit.ng had reported that Burundi government, in a statement, announced President Nkurunziza’s death at Karusi hospital.

The statement which was posted on twitter disclosed that the president was admitted to the hospital on Saturday, June 6, after feeling unwell.

But he suffered a heart attack on Monday, June 8, and efforts to revive him proved futile and unsuccessful.

President Buhari described Nkurunziza as a patriot who led his country with wisdom and foresight.

Depositphotos Buhari has now described the death as a great loss for the community of Africa and Burundi considering the wisdom an effort Nkurunziza brought tho the East Africa country during its turbulent time.

Buhari saluted the late president and described him as a patriot, saying Nigeria as a brother nation stands with the people of Burundi during the tough time.

“At this time of great pain & loss, the government and people of Nigeria as well as myself, express our deepest condolences to the government and people of Burundi.

“Our thoughts & prayers also go out to the family of the President.

May God grant them the fortitude to bear the loss,” Buhari said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that President Buhari has paid a tribute to the mother of late Super Eagles midfielder Samuel Okwaraji.

Mrs Janet gave up the ghost at her residence in Enugu state at the age of 83 and her death was confirmed by her eldest son Patrick.

In a condolence message released by the president’s special adviser on media and publicity Femi Adesina, Buhari described the late matriarch as someone who defined simplicity, loyalty and patriotism.
