Chelsea is on the queue for Edinson Cavani

The Blues and Red Devils have both reportedly made contact with Edinson about a free transfer at the end of the season.

The striker – who turns 33 in February – is coming to the end of his Paris Saint-Germain deal, and has apparently agreed terms on a potential move to Atletico Madrid.

However, L’Equipe report that Cavani is yet to sign the deal, and United have made initial contact with the striker’s representatives, while Chelsea are said to have made an opening formal enquiry.

Cavani is said to have a meeting with PSG sporting director Leonardo coming up, and could even leave the club this month depending on PSG’s flexibility and the offers they receive.

Unai Emery also on Cavani

One man that knows Cavani well, having worked together at PSG, is former Arsenal head coach Unai Emery, who was sacked by the Gunners in November.

And the Spaniard has said that Cavani would make a great signing for any club in Europe.

Talking to Spanish radio station El Larguero as translated by Marca, the former Arsenal boss said: “He is a competitive animal, a winner and someone that trains in the highest demand.

“From the outside I do not see it so difficult that he can come in this winter market. He is very passionate and would be a magnificent signing.”

Spurs assigned to kick a move

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent has called on Jose Mourinho to make a move for the striker in January in order to cover losing Harry Kane to injury.

The England striker will be out of action until at least April, meaning that Spurs are short on striking options.

“So Spurs now need to sign a centre-forward in this transfer window,” Bent told talkSPORT.

“Not one to play back-up to Harry Kane when he comes back, they need one to come in NOW who is ready to go.

“We’ve spoken about Cavani – there’s your guy! Go and get him! He’s getting on in age but can still do a job.”

Moussa Dembele ‘agrees’ personal terms

Edinson Cavani may be one of Chelsea’s reported targets, but another comes in the shape of Lyon striker Moussa Dembele.

And according to The Transfer Window podcast several weeks ago, Dembele has agreed personal terms with Chelsea over a January move.

However, Lyon look unlikely to sanction a sale given president Jean-Michel Aulas’ comments, which could see the Blues make a concerted effort to sign Cavani either this month or in the summer.

PSG ready to sell for £25m – Atletico interested
