Alexandre Lacazette is preparing to move to Barcelona in 2020 summer

Back in the summer, reports in Spain claimed that Barcelona were considering a shock move for Lacazette as they looked to provide competition to Luis Suarez in the centre-forward role.

And the striker did not rule anything out.

“It is flattering!,” he told Telefoot, as per Get French Football News when asked about the reported interest.

However, Antoine Griezmann – Lacazette’s close friend – joined Barca for 120 million euros (£102m) and with that the La Liga giants’ interest in the Gunners star cooled.

Lacazette’s contract at the Emirates Stadium expires in the summer of 2020.

That means he’s not one of several Arsenal players at risk of being sold at some point this year as per the new transfer regime installed at the club by Raul Sanllehi and Vinai Venkatesham

Speaking at a fans’ forum in March last year, Sanllehi told supporters that any player who does not renew their contract before they reach the final two years of their deal will be sold.

This has since been backed up by Venkatesham.”We need to make sure we are really disciplined,” he told the club’s official website. “A good example of that is senior players that aren’t towards the end of their careers, we need to make sure that those players, when they’ve got two years left on their contract, we’re making the difficult decisions.

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has bizarrely claimed that Arteta should cash in on Lacazette as well as four other Arsenal players.

“The biggest challenge he will face is dealing with the senior players,” Cascarino told The Times.

“I remember when Ron Atkinson came into Aston Villa, he said to me immediately: ‘I have agreed a fee with Celtic for you.’

“That is how Arteta should approach it, starting with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, David Luiz, Mesut Ozil and Shkodran Mustafi.”

Ahead of the January transfer window opening, the Daily Star claimed that Lacazette had made a decision to leave Arsenal.

They cited a report in The Times which stated that the Frenchman was to make the same case as captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in looking to depart north London because he wants to win trophies.

Furthermore, the report stated there are a number of key players that are looking to leave after seasons of disappointment.

Despite Lacazette’s lack of goals, he remains a key member of Arteta’s tactical plan and recent comments from the Gunners head coach suggests he won’t want to lose the Frenchman.

“He had the chances to put away,” Arteta reflected. “He has been really helpful in giving us a lot of options.

“He makes his team-mates better, that’s one of the biggest qualities.

“Normally every time he’s in front of goal he’s so clinical. I’m disappointed that he hasn’t been rewarded for all the work he’s done in the last three games, he could have scored three or four goals easily.

“The goals will come for him naturally because he’s a top finisher.”

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Atletico Madrid will offer Thomas Lemar in exchange for Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette.

Atletico are still reportedly interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani, but if a deal for the Uruguayan international cannot be struck, the report claims the La Liga side would consider a swap deal for Lacazette.

Diego Simeone’s side were previously linked with the Arsenal striker, before he moved to the Emirates from Lyon in 2017.
